New Zealand will play Sri Lanka at the Basin Reserve Arena, Wellington, on March 31.
NEW ZEALAND
The home team took part in two of the most spectacular and close-to-win Tests of all time, and before this match, they will be snatching chances to win from every position. Neil Wagner suffered a back injury in the first Test and will not play in Game 3.
After Kane Williamson scored 132 points in the win over England in the Wellington Test, he scored again as a key player: this time he dived for the last ball to lead New Zealand to victory. Daryl Mitchell continued his march, scoring 102 and 81 points in Christchurch.
Tim Southee and Matt Henry were excellent in both innings of the first test before Blair Tickner came to life, making 4-100 in the second inning of the Christchurch game.
SRI LANKA
After losing earlier this week, it became apparent that Sri Lanka would no longer be able to qualify for the World Cup finals at the Oval in June – which was very, very devastating for our team. Nevertheless, they won’t be too upset about how the first test turned out, and will be pleased as they are with how close they came to winning.
Expectedly, Angelo Mathews distinguished himself in the first test, who, deserved the win by scoring 115 in the second inning and 47 in the first. As a team, their total score of 355 in the first inning will be their goal in this test as well.
In such challenging conditions, Kasun Rajitha, Asita Fernando and Lahiru Kumara played very well, especially in the first inning. Fernando distinguished himself with seven feints, and he will be a big threat in this match as well.
Sri Lanka has lost three of their last five matches and two of their last three tests. But it’s too early to sound the alarm!
PREDICTION
Despite their strong spirit, Sri Lanka will be difficult to play at this level and we think their bowlers may have a bit of trouble, although their squad is experienced and talented. We expect a tight game, but it is likely that New Zealand will win by a margin in this test as well.
